KIFI-TV in Idaho Falls reports that two Rigby middle school students and one school employee sustained non-life-threatening injuries when a female student at the school opened fire both inside and outside the school Thursday morning.
Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson said at a press conference that at approximately 9:08 am, a sixth-grade female student retrieved a handgun from her backpack and fired multiple rounds.
Two victims were shot inside, and one was shot outside of the school. Anderson said that during the shooting, a teacher disarmed the student and detained her until law enforcement took her into custody.
The three were taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, and the adult was treated and released. The bullet went cleanly through that victim’s limb. Meanwhile, the two pediatric patients are in fair condition and were monitored overnight. The incident is still under investigation.
