Times Predicts Future Yellowstone

The New York Times yesterday published a story predicting how the nature of Yellowstone National Park is predicted to change drastically within the next generation. The article quotes researchers as saying that over the next few decades, climate change will cause the national park to experience increased fire activity, a reduction in forested land, expanding grasslands and shallower, warmer waterways.  That in turn, the article says, may alter the movement and numbers of wildlife in the park. The Timesarticle also points to invasive plant life that is replacing natural vegetation with less nutritious varieties to feed the browsers that live in the park. The article concludes that scientists studying the trends are saying the changes that are taking place are happening at a rate more rapid than anticipated.
