The Town of Jackson has released a statement regarding discussions recently taking place about relocating the fair and rodeo grounds from their current location. In the statement, the town points out that the Fair Board has made a formal request to discuss the possibility of requesting SPET funding to relocate the fairgrounds, while a community group hosted a discussion last week focused on keeping the Rodeo grounds where it is.
The statement goes on, “The Town has supported the Rodeo and Fair to take place on its land for many decades and has committed to continue to do so in this same location for, at least, four more years. The current leases that both the Fair and Rodeo hold go through 2026. The Town is equally invested in supporting our shared western heritage and finding solutions for current challenges facing our entire community.”
The Town says it recognizes that determining the best use for these parcels of land is a community conversation and is committed to making ample time for the entire community to engage on this topic.
The group, Save the Rodeo Grounds held a meeting last week to oppose any decision to move the facilities and has and online petition to tell local officials that they do not support a move. That petition has been signed by nearly 2000 people.
