With Independence Day falling on Thursday this year, Americans observing the holiday are expected to extend it from Wednesday through the following weekend. According to AAA Auto Club, more Americans than ever recorded by the AAA – nearly 49 million – are plans for an Independence Day getaway this year. Overall travel volume for the holiday is expected to rise 4.1% over last year, with an additional 1.9-million people planning road trips and other vacations to celebrate America’s birthday. For the record-high 41.4-million Americans who will travel by automobile this Independence Day, Wednesday, July 3rd will be the busiest day on the roads. AAA estimates 3.96 million people will fly to their destinations (a 5.3 percent increase) and another 3.55 million passengers will travel via trains, buses and cruise ships. The number one destination for those making reservations through AAA is Orlando, Florida; followed by Honolulu, Seattle, Las Vegas, and Anaheim.
