A head-on collision in Grand Teton National Park yesterday afternoon claimed the life of a Riverton woman and a visitor from Missouri. At about 2:15 pm, the Teton Interagency Dispatch Center received a call reporting the accident just north of Jackson Hole Airport. Emergency responders found that a mini-van and an SUV had collided head-on, killing one of the occupants outright.
The second victim was declared deceased upon arrival at St. John’s Medical Center. County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue identified the victims as Missouri resident 64-year-old Craig Aubuchon and 68-year-old Carol Lynn Roemer from Riverton.
Several other occupants were reportedly hospitalized with injuries as well. The wreck closed US Highway 89 north of the airport for over four hours. Grand Teton National Park Rangers were assisted by Wyoming Highway Patrol, Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, Teton County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Highway Administration in dealing with the wreck.
The National Park Service and Wyoming Highway Patrol are continuing their investigation into the accident.
