Unemployment Numbers Released

Teton County, Wyoming last month posted the highest unemployment rate in the state which more than eclipsed the national average. According to the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, the jobless rate in the county soared to 15%. That compares with 2.9% during May of 2019. Still, the jobless rate in May was significantly down from 18.3% during April which was the largest decrease in Wyoming. The state says it appears that Wyoming’s economy improved modestly in May as COVID-19 pandemic restrictions were loosened and some businesses reopened. At 8.8%, Wyoming’s unemployment rate as a whole was significantly lower than the U.S. rate of 13.3%. Sublette County’s unemployment rate dropped from 11.4% to 9.8% last month and Lincoln County dropped from 9.0% to 7.8%. In Teton County, Idaho, the jobless rate fell from 14.9% in April to 11% last month.
