The United States Postal Service introduced a national safe driving awareness campaign on March 20th, urging Wyoming residents to stay cautious around its vehicles. With over 246,000 vehicles logging more than a billion miles annually to serve 169 million delivery points, the USPS emphasizes safety as a core duty. Leeann Theriault, USPS Employee Safety and Health Awareness Manager, stressed the need for public vigilance to protect drivers delivering mail daily across the state.
The campaign highlights simple steps for the public: slow down near postal vehicles, check blind spots, avoid distractions like phones, and refrain from blocking delivery trucks. USPS vehicles, often stopping frequently, require extra space to maneuver safely. Tractor-Trailer Operator Carter Scott noted that safe driving is his priority, a habit reinforced by extensive employee training for all conditions, from rural roads to city streets.
Theriault underscored that preventable accidents occur when drivers rush or overlook postal vehicles, despite their visibility. The initiative, tagged #USPSVehicleAwareness online, seeks community cooperation to reduce risks and ensure safety for all on Wyoming roads.
