A second-grade class at Colter Elementary School received notification Wednesday that in-school sessions have been cancelled until at least September 23rd because of contact exposures to the COVID-19 virus.
According to a letter to the parents, the last date of exposure was yesterday, and the school district will allow a shortened 7-day quarantine period if a negative test is completed on or after day number five, and there is no sign of symptoms. Failing that, students will not be allowed to return until September 27th.
During the quarantine period, the class will be taught virtually, and online attendance will be mandatory. School District Spokesperson Charlotte Reynolds explains, “When we have a potential exposure in school, we notify those directly impacted by the exposure rather than a building-wide or district-wide communication.”
Reynolds said that this is the third elementary class to be quarantined due to classroom exposure where masks were not worn consistently or correctly. The other two were in Munger Mountain and Jackson Elementary schools.
She adds that there have been other positive cases reported that have not led to full classroom quarantines due to proper mask wearing.
The district is offering free rapid tests to students in those classes by appointment with their school nurse.
