Visitation to the national parks in the Greater Yellowstone area have seen an increase during the last month, which compared with 2020 when the COVID pandemic took its toll, was not surprising. However, Grand Teton National Park posted the highest March visitation on record, with 74,754 recreational visitors.
That compares with 51,455 in 2020 and 65,864 in 2019. The trend is likely to continue, according to Spokesperson Denise Germann who says last weekend was one of the busiest the park has seen in years. Coincidentally, last January also broke a record in Grand Teton with 66,585 recreational visitors.
Total visitation to the park including non-recreational visits has topped 538,419 so far this year. The story is similar in Yellowstone where the March count of recreational visits was 35,611 compared with 32,516 in 2020 which was the previous record for March. Total visitation year to date in Yellowstone is 295,507.
