A bill that would not allow voters to switch their party affiliation in the primary after the filing deadline passed the Senate Friday on an 18-12 vote. Teton County Senator Mike Gireau says the bill will effectively limit the flexibility of voters.
“What the bill will do if it’s passed is it will preclude you from switching over in the primary after the filing deadline. So…in other words, if your best friend gets up on the filing deadline and decides to run in another party in an office, you can’t switch parties and vote for him in the primary.”
The bill has now moved to the House for consideration there.
