As of June 14th, all the remaining snow at Grand Targhee Snow Tel station had melted marking the earliest date on 1989-2020 record that this watershed Snow Water Equivalent reached zero.
According to the Henry’s Fork Foundation, precipitation is 76% of average for the water year, and Teton Valley is classified as abnormally dry to moderate drought. Draft of Island Park Reservoir was expected to begin in early-to-mid June, compared with July 4th last year, and outflow is likely to increase from about 600 cubic feet per second to 1,000 cfs by early July, and stay around 1,500 cfs (or higher) until mid-August.
Friends of Teton River point out that irrigation demand will soon exceed flow in the Teton River, as storage water is delivered from Island Park Reservoir through the cross-cut canal.
