Water Numbers Lower Than Recent Years

March 14, 2019 by Jackson Hole Radio

The Natural Resources Conservation Service is reporting the snow accumulations and water content measured in the reporting stations of western Wyoming’s river basins are well above normal now, but still below recent years. Their report currently shows the Snake River Basin has 106% of the norm for snow that has accumulated in the snotels which contain 116% of the normal water content. The Madison/Galatin River basin has 114% snow accumulation with 130% snow-water content. The Wind River Basin still has only 92% of the norm for snow accumulated there, but that contains a water content that is 104% of the norm. The NRCS reports that the altogether, state’s SNOTELs are currently reading 110% of median with a basin high of 131% and a basin low of 84%.  Last year the state was at 112%, and at 148% in 2017.
