Fire activity on the Lone Star Fire in Yellowstone National Park has diminished as a cold front and light precipitation moved through the area Monday. Still, fire officials expect the fire to retain heat and smolder for some time. At the same time, work continues on fuels reduction around key infrastructure in Old Faithful Village, including power lines and historic buildings, not only to protect the area from an unexpected shift in direction of the fire, but to prepare the developments for any future wildfires. At last measurement, the Lone Star Fire was estimated to involve 960 acres. Trailheads on the Grand Loop Road between Old Faithful and West Thumb Junction remain closed to the public but the road itself is open.
