Friday’s fire at White Pine destroyed the lodge but not the business.” That was the word Monday from Robyn Blackburn who with her husband Alan Blackburn own and operate one of Wyoming’s oldest ski resorts; established in January, 1940.
Contacted by Jackson Hole Radio News, Blackburn noted that early indications are that the lifts were not affected although they are still waiting for Rocky Mountain Power to reconnect service so that these can be tested. Blackburn says they will be meeting with the the US Forest Service to determine what temporary structures they can operate from in order to be open again this winter. She says to that end; season passes are still on sale.
Meanwhile, some of the resort’s faithful patrons have set up a Gofundme account to help the Blackburns recover quickly. Unfortunately, numerous couples are now seeking new venues for their summer weddings. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Black burn says the most extensive damage is centered in the area of the boiler room and kitchen.
