On Tuesdsay, the Bridger-Teton National Forest responded to a fire in the Gros Ventre Wilderness, located on the Jackson Ranger District. The fire, currently estimated at ¼ acre, is burning in timber about 2 miles northeast of Kelly, Wyoming, and southwest of the Gros Ventre River Ranch. Firefighters are actively suppressing the fire, with a fire engine and helicopter on the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and there are no road or trail closures associated with this incident at this time.
The fire danger rating for the Bridger-Teton National Forest remains at High. This means that fine dead fuels can ignite easily, and fires can start quickly from most causes. Unattended brush and campfires are especially risky, as they can spread rapidly. The recent surge of moisture in the area, while welcome, brings increased lightning activity, which could result in more fire ignitions in the coming weeks. Some of these fires may not be immediately visible and could take several days to grow into noticeable incidents.
