The Bridger-Teton National Forest has responded to the Willow Ridge Fire, which was discovered on August 13, 2024. The fire, caused by lightning, is burning on the west side of Willow Creek in the Greys River Ranger District. It is located about 10 miles northeast of Afton, Wyoming, and is currently ½ acre in size. The fire is burning in grass, brush, and some dead and downed trees.
At this time, there are no road or trail closures related to the fire. The fire danger rating for the Bridger-Teton National Forest remains at High, meaning that fine dead fuels can ignite easily and fires can spread rapidly. Although there are no restrictions on campfires in the forest, visitors are urged to exercise extreme caution. It is crucial to ensure that all campfires are fully extinguished by thoroughly drowning the site with water and making sure the area is cool to the touch before leaving.
Fireworks are strictly prohibited on Forest Service land, and visitors are reminded to adhere to all safety guidelines to prevent wildfires.
