The COVID-19 pandemic has interrupted a lot of life in Jackson Hole over the past several months, and now it is preventing a long tradition that has brought residents of the community together every July: The Wilson Chicken Fry. The Wilson Fire Department announced last week that out of concern for the inability to conduct the event in such a way that the public could be socially distanced, the decision had been made to cancel the 53rd annual event. Money raised from the chicken fry goes to purchase or repair equipment and offer training to firefighters. As such, the chicken fry is not only a successful fund-raiser each year, it serves as a gathering place for locals to spend an afternoon socializing. The department is already looking forward to the 2021 Chicken Fry and asks in the meantime that the community support the department with donations.
