The Wort House has officially been added to the Town’s new Historic Preservation Register. Through this new program, when a structure is listed on the Register it becomes eligible for development and other incentives to help offset costs associated with preserving historic structures.
The John Wort House at 155 W. Pearl is a well-preserved example of residential structures in Jackson’s early days. The Wort House was built in 1933, a time when land was plentiful and building materials were not.
The structure retains the original form of a historic log cabin and is socially significant as well due to its original owners, the Wort family.
The Worts initially came to Jackson in 1894 and were influential in the community for many years, even before building the Wort Hotel in the 1940s.
