The Wyoming Department of Transportation is demonstrating a new information system installed on I-80 as a pilot program for the US Department of Transportation. In September 2015, the US Department of Transportation had awarded cooperative agreements collectively worth more than $45 million to three sites for a regional connected vehicle pilot. Called the Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment Program, this installation seeks to deploy, test, and operationalize cutting-edge mobile and roadside technologies and enable multiple connected vehicle applications. The Wyoming site specifically focuses on the needs of the commercial vehicle operator in the State of Wyoming and will develop applications that use vehicle to infrastructure and vehicle to vehicle connectivity to relay advisories including roadside alerts, parking notifications and dynamic travel guidance. Among the messages will be forward collision warning, work zone warnings, spot weather impact warnings and distress notification. The pilot system will be set up between Rawlins and Cheyenne and between Rock Springs and Granger. In addition to Wyoming, sites for pilot installations were selected in New York City and Tampa Florida.
