With grizzly bear populations on the rise, hunting tags for the animals are about to become increasingly available. Grizzlies currently have an endangered species status, but federal authorities are predicted to remove these protections after a state petition was presented recently .
Just in the Yellowstone area, it’s possible that a grizzly bear hunt could end up with 39 of the animals dead. In the entire state, around 100 bears might be killed.
With more than 1,000 bears found in the Yellowstone region, many find that bear hunts like these are necessary. However, in the past, methods of counting the populations of grizzly bears have been thought to be faulty and scientists are concerned that inaccurate data might encourage bear hunts that will harm the species.
