Wyoming Legislature at odds on redistricting

The Wyoming House of Representatives on Monday rejected the redistricting map approved by the Senate, setting the stage for negotiations between the chambers later this week. At stake are the legislative districts that lawmakers will serve in for the next decade. Teton County Senator Mike Gireau says Monday’s vote triggered legislative leadership to appoint a committee of three representatives and three senators to hash out of the differences between the chambers.
“The House has passed a plan with 62 members and the 31-member Senate plan, and the Senate has approved a plan with 60 House members and 30 Senators. So now it’s in conference committee to get reconciled and now it’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out.”
Gierau says redistricting is one of the most challenging issues the Legislature has had to tackle this year, and as the state’s population grows, it will continue to be a problem.
