With states opening up and the national unemployment rate now at 13.3% compared to the nearly historic high of 14.7% at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic. WalletHub has released a report indicating unemployment recovery in Wyoming has been the seventh best among the 50 states and District of Columbia. According to their report, the 8.7% unemployment rate in May marked the seventh best recovery since the Coronavirus shut down businesses in March. In making that rating, WalletHub looked at the change in each state’s unemployment rate during the latest month for which data was available compared to May 2019 and January 2020. They also compared not seasonally adjusted continued claims in May 2020 to May 2019. Finally, they considered each state’s overall unemployment rate and used the average of all those categories to rank-order the states. The full county-by-county unemployment report from the state is to be released Tuesday.
