Prior to the primary election this year 12,509 Wyoming residents changed their party affiliation. 11,633 changed their affiliation status to be registered as Republicans while 430 Republicans registered as Democrats. The remainder changed dropped any affiliation. However, the Secretary of State’s office notes that of the 12,509 persons who changed their party affiliation, 701 subsequently changed their party affiliation again and re-registered back to their original 2018 party affiliation. It is also noted that a change in party affiliation does not reflect on how the person will actually vote next month. Typically, in Wyoming, there are more Republican candidate races to be decided during a primary than there are Democrat candidates to be decided which provides one possible motivation for the changes.
