Yellowstone fees skyrocket

The cost of fishing and boating permits in Yellowstone National Park have increased significantly this year.
According to the park, fishing licenses in the park have increased from $40 to $75 this year while three-day permits have gone from $18 to $40, and seven-day permits have gone from $25 to $55.
Boating permits for non-motorized boats have increased from $5 to $20, and from $10 to $40 for motorized boats for a seven-day permit. Season permits for non-motorized boats have increased from $10 to $30 and from $20 to $60 for motorized boats.
The park explains resulting increase in revenue from the fee increases will guarantee funding and provide a sustained revenue source that will contribute to continued efforts to reduce nonnative lake trout and increase the park’s aquatic invasive species inspection capacity while addressing major financial shortfalls in its ability to prevent and reduce aquatic invasive species affecting fisheries across the park last year.
Anglers will be able to purchase fishing permits online via Recreation.gov starting now for the upcoming season in addition to​ in-park stores and surrounding communities beginning later this spring. However, boat permits are not available online.
