Even though the State of Wyoming’s Department of Criminal Investigation had, back in September, released the name of a man thought drown in a hot spring in Yellowstone the National Park has now officially confirmed the identity of a man whose foot was found last August in Abyss Pool, located in the West Thumb Geyser Basin.
The remains belonged to Il Hun Ro, a 70-year-old male from Los Angeles, California. Yellowstone law enforcement officers received the positive identification based on DNA analysis in the last several weeks and has notified the family.
On August 16th, a park employee found part of a foot in a shoe floating in the well-known thermal feature and an investigation led by Yellowstone law enforcement officers began. The investigation determined Hu died on the morning of July 31, 2022, at Abyss Pool, but no foul play was suspected.
