The south end of Yellowstone National Park is to reopen to the public Wednesday morning at 8:00 am on a limited basis. Vehicles will be admitted for day trips according to the last number on their license plates, with the odd numbers being admitted on odd-number days – for instance, Wednesday is June 22nd so only even numbered plates would be admitted.
Personalized plates will be considered odd unless they contain a number, in which case the last numerical digit will determine whether it is odd or even. Motorcycle groups will be admitted on even numbered days. Current commercial use operators with active commercial use permits, including motorcoaches, will be permitted to enter regardless of license plate number.
Visitors with proof of overnight reservations in the park Including hotels, campgrounds and backcountry reservations, will be permitted to enter regardless of license plate number. Park officials say the interim license plate system will ensure that visitors have access to the park at least every other day during this period of high demand.
However, not everything on the south loop will be open right away. Among the facilities remaining closed are Canyon Village Lodges & Cabins, Canyon, Madison, Norris and Lewis Lake campgrounds, Fishing Bridge Visitor Center and Trailside Museum
