Yellowstone National Park hosted 522,450 recreation visits in May 2024, marking a 15% increase from May 2023, which saw 454,262 recreation visits. This May’s visitation also showed a 10% rise from May 2021, which had 473,799 recreation visits.
To date in 2024, the park has welcomed 719,127 recreation visits, an 11% increase from both 2023 (644,979) and 2021 (649,153). The year-to-date trend for recreation visits through May over the last several years is as follows:
- 2024: 719,127

- 2022: 733,471 (The park was closed from June 13 to June 21 due to a historic flood event, with three entrances reopening on June 22.)
- 2021: 649,153
- 2020: 145,849 (The park was closed from March 24 to May 17 due to COVID-19, with two entrances reopening on May 18 and the remaining three on June 1.)
- 2019: 576,776
Summer is the busiest season for Yellowstone, with millions of visitors in June, July, and August. If you plan to visit the park this summer, it is essential to plan ahead and protect both yourself and the park by taking the Yellowstone Pledge.
