Yellowstone National Park‘s East Entrance will open to public motor vehicle traffic on Friday, May 3 at 8 a.m., weather permitting. The opening includes the roads from the East Entrance, near Cody, Wyoming, to Lake Village via Sylvan Pass and Fishing Bridge Junction, as well as from Canyon Village to Lake Village.
Visitors are advised to check the weather forecast prior to arrival as winter conditions are expected, which may lead to temporary road closures or delays without notice. The park urges travelers to have flexible plans and stay informed on current road conditions.

Safety is a priority in the park, especially with many areas still experiencing winter conditions. Roads may be icy or snow-covered. Services are limited during the spring, and visitors should come prepared. Wildlife such as bison, elk, and bears may be found on roads, and it is crucial to maintain safe distances—100 yards from bears and wolves, and 25 yards from all other wildlife.
For those planning a visit, further road openings are scheduled throughout May. For updated information, visitors can check the park’s website at www.nps.gov/yell or use the National Park Service App.
