While it has been feeling a bit like the official start to autumn in Jackson, it’s a bit more like winter in parts of Yellowstone National Park.
Dunraven pass was closed last night due to winter conditions.
The road from Tower to Canyon will be reevaluated today.
The pass, at an elevation of nearly 8900 feet was hit with snow as moist storm systems moved through the park over the last few days.
Sunshine returns to the park with warming temperatures beginning today and the road is expected to be reopened.
All roads close for the winter at 12:01 am November 1st except the road between the North Entrance and the Northeast Entrance.
Crews have been working to restore access to Gardiner and Cooke City, Montana since the summer floods damaged roads. Those temporary repairs are expected to be completed in mid-October.
The Beartooth Highway closes between the Long Lake barricade, near the Top of the World store, and the Montana/Wyoming state line on October 11th.
Roads begin to open in Yellowstone to over-snow travel on December 15th from West Entrance to Old Faithful, Mammoth to Old Faithful, Canyon to Norris, Canyon to Lake, Old Faithful to West Thumb, South Entrance to Lake, Lake to Lake Butte Overlook, and East Entrance to Lake Butte Overlook.
