While it remains uncertain when the area’s National Parks will reopen to the public, Yellowstone Superintendent Cam Sholly told participants in a conference call Monday that preparations are being made to gradually ease restrictions at some point. Even as the park remains closed to the public, Sholly says park crews are continuing to plow the roads.
Sholly said, “Many of the roads, as many of you know, would have been open to the public access last Friday – here in Yellowstone at least between April 17th and May 1st is when ordinarily the park roads open. Our crews have been out, and the same in Grand Teton doing an outstanding job preparing the park to be ready to open when the time comes.”
Sholly says the park is formulating plans in sync with the lodging companies in the park so that hiring can be launched in a timely manner and the facilities can be prepared in time to accommodate visitation. Sholly promised to give the local communities plenty of advanced notice as reopening approaches.
