Youth Philanthropy raises money for Jackson nonprofits

April 25, 2023 by Jackson Hole Radio

Each year, all the high schools in Teton County participate in an event called Youth Philanthropy, designed to raise money for local nonprofits.

High school students have the opportunity to review grant applications and choose the organizations they think have the best project proposals.

This year, the various high schools around Jackson were able to fund local nonprofits with $37,000 total. 24 different nonprofits applied for the grants and 21 were awarded at least partial funding.

This year, more than 50 students from Jackson Hole High School, Summit Innovations School, Mountain Academy of Teton Science Schools, Jackson Hole Community School and Jackson Hole Classical Academy participated in the Youth Philanthropy program. The grant proposals they reviewed represented a wide array of art, conservation, health and human services and educational programs in Teton County.

Students who were especially impressive in their philanthropy were also recognized and given $400 to give to a nonprofit of their choice. The following students were awarded the Future Old Bill Award. From Jackson Hole Classical Academy, Jackson and James Neishabouri (joint prize).

From the Jackson Hole Community School: Dylan Visosky. From the Jackson Hole High School: Sayre Jorgenson. From the Mountain Academy of Teton Science Schools: Sophie Neilson. And from Summit Innovations School: Hugo Loaeza.
