In what continues to be a busy season for searches and rescues in Jackson Hole and the surrounding region, Grand Teton National Park Rangers dealt with three major search and rescue callouts within just 24 hours this week.
On Monday at about 1:30 p.m., rangers received a report of a 21-year-old female at Surprise Lake who was disoriented. The patient was transported by helicopter out of the backcountry and to St. John’s Health.
Then at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, another call reported that a 22-year-old female had hurt her back after she jumped into Phelps Lake from “Jump Rock” The woman was short-hauled via helicopter to White Grass Ranch.
On Tuesday morning, a climber who was on the traverse between Teewinot Mountain and Mount Owen reported that his un-roped climbing partner had taken a several-hundred-foot fall, had a severe head injury, and possibly broken bones in his extremities. Park rangers responded via the Teton Interagency helicopter and the patient, a 24-year-old male, was flown to Lupine Meadows andthen transported via Air Idaho Rescue to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
