Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Initiative
- Wyoming Game and Fish Department addressing employee housing challenges in Jackson Hole.
- Plans to commence construction in August on a housing project in the Commission-owned South Park Wildlife Habitat Management Area.
- Collaborative approach with Teton County to meet community vision and safety standards.
- Dedicated funds ensure no reliance on State of Wyoming general funds.
Housing Plans
This August, the Wyoming Game & Fish department aims to break ground on a much-needed housing project located on the northeast corner of the Commission-owned South Park Wildlife Habitat Management Area, about five miles south of Jackson. The development includes six single-family houses and one multi-occupant house for temporary employees. This strategic location ensures minimal impact on high-value wildlife habitat and the Department’s wintering elk management.
Collaboration with Teton County
Working closely with Teton County, the Game and Fish Commission has taken an innovative approach by exempting itself from formal land development regulations, as permitted by Wyoming Statute. This collaborative effort ensures that the project aligns with the community’s vision and adheres to health and fire safety standards.
Project Management and Funding
The Commission has entrusted Jorgensen Associates, Inc. for design and project oversight, and Dick Anderson Construction as the Construction Manager, both local companies based in Jackson. The agreed Guaranteed Maximum Price for the project is $12.2 million. Importantly, the Commission has dedicated funds over the years to complete high-priority projects like this, without relying on State of Wyoming general funds.
Commitment to Jackson’s Presence
Game and Fish Deputy Director John Kennedy expressed confidence in the project, stating that it will lead to a housing complex that meets everyone’s satisfaction. The Commission’s commitment to maintaining a strong presence in Jackson reflects the community’s support and the critical role of this initiative.
