I just returned from a lovely day at an iconic Montana getaway. Chico Hot Springs, known for its natural hot springs and rustic charm, was as relaxing as ever. But many folks I ran into were concerned about how long it would stay that way.
Chico has been in the headlines recently due to a significant change. The historic resort has been sold to a Maryland-based company, DiamondRock Hospitality, for a hefty sum of $33 million, sparking some discussions about the future of the beloved Montana treasure.

Chico Lovers Worried about Change
DiamondRock Hospitality, a well-known player in the hospitality industry, is now at the helm of Chico Hot Springs. With a portfolio of upscale hotels and resorts across the United States, the company brings experience in maintaining and enhancing the unique features of their properties. In a press release, DiamondRock Hospitality assured that they are dedicated to preserving the authenticity of Chico Hot Springs while collaborating with the local community.
The news of the acquisition has created quite a buzz, both in Paradise Valley and beyond Montana’s borders. The response has been a mix of nostalgia and cautious optimism about its future. There’s hope that DiamondRock will not destroy the tradition that has made Chico Hot Springs a favorite spot for so many.

Chico’s Future Includes Glamping and Renewable Energy
However, there are concerns as well. Many Jackson residents are frequent travelers to Chico and are wondering if the new owners can make enough money without any big changes that might alter the resort’s character and appeal. One Chico lover said to me, “I sure hope they don’t change it.”
With DiamondRock Hospitality now in charge, Chico Hot Springs could be on the brink of a new era. The company said it is exploring options for affordable housing, renewable energy, additional guest rooms and ‘glamping’.
It’s uncertain how change will be received by longtime visitors and newcomers alike. It’s important to recognize that Chico Hot Springs isn’t just a place; it’s a part of Montana’s heritage and a haven for those who have.
While I understand that change is inevitable, I hope that the next chapter at Chico is one of preservation. If you’re a seasoned Chico Hot Springs enthusiast or someone who’s yet to experience the hot pools and hospitality, the next installment in its story is one to watch.

Chico is the latest in a number of sales of iconic resort properties lately. The most prominent of which was Jackson Hole Mountain Resort which recently changed hands from the Kemmerer family to a group of local investors.
Late last year, a Washington-based hotel company purchased the historic Izaak Walton Inn outside of Glacier National Park.
