Construction Progress on Moose-Wilson Road
Due to the rainy and wet conditions experienced this spring, the construction progress on the Moose-Wilson Road has been significantly slowed, leading to a delay in the road’s opening schedule. The road will continue to be closed to traffic on weekdays, with limited access available on weekends until late July. This necessary measure is taken to ensure public safety during the ongoing construction.
Schedule Update on Moose-Wilson Road
- Through late July:
- Closed to traffic on weekdays
- Open on weekends from 5pm Friday through 7am. Monday.
- Fourth of July weekend
- Open from 3 p.m. Friday, June 30, through 7 a.m. Thursday, July 6.
- Late July
- The road will open to through traffic seven days a week, with possible 20-minute delays.

- Complete the road base and install asphalt south of the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve
- Granite Canyon Trailhead construction will be completed in the fall with parking lot paving, addition of vault toilets, concrete walks, pavement markings, and site restoration.
- Granite Entrance Station site construction will be completed in the fall, with improved entrance and exit lanes
- Poker Flats will open for equestrian activity in the fall, with an accessible horse mounting area and redesigned trails to better connect with the new parking lot.
Project Conclusion
In conclusion, the Moose-Wilson Road construction project has faced delays due to the unfavorable weather conditions this spring. However, the National Park Service, in collaboration with the Western Federal Lands Highway Division, is working diligently to minimize the impact on public access along the Moose-Wilson corridor.
