Jackson Giants Drop Double Header

Jackson Giants faced one of their toughest challenges this summer season of American Legion baseball as they lost both games of the doubleheader against Cheyenne Post 6 on July 4.

  • Cheyenne Post 6 displayed a strong offense, accumulating 13 hits in Game 1 and 11 hits in Game 2, with notable contributions from C Williams, J Romero, and B Pearson.

Jackson Giants v Cheyenne Game 1

The Jackson Giants struggled to match the Cheyenne Post 6’s performance, resulting in a decisive 12-3 loss. Cheyenne Post 6 swiftly took the lead with a powerful grand slam courtesy of C McAnelly. Despite their efforts, the Giants couldn’t bridge the gap, and Cheyenne Post 6 continued to extend their advantage. Notable pitching performances came from B Pearson for Cheyenne recording the win through 4 innings pitched, 4 strikeouts, and 2 earned runs. For the Giants, Bridger Olnhausen, and Xander Witt displayed their skills on the mound, but couldn’t keep Cheyenne from offensive success. At the plate, Cheyenne Post exhibited patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks and collecting 13 hits during the game.

Game 2 showcased a fiercely competitive battle between the Jackson Giants and Cheyenne Post 6. Both teams fought relentlessly for the lead, resulting in a captivating game with multiple lead changes. Ultimately, the Jackson Giants fell short with an 11-6 defeat against Cheyenne Post 6. Pitcher H Swean stood out as he secured the win for Cheyenne Post 6, while Aaron Huggins took the mound for the Giants, demonstrating resilience despite the outcome. The Giants‘ Trayson Kostial, Lukas Gralund, and Ethan Garner delivered noteworthy two-hit performances, but they couldn’t overcome Cheyenne Post 6’s strong offensive display. Cheyenne Post 6 showcased their hitting prowess once again, accumulating 11 hits throughout the game.

Looking Ahead

Despite this setback against arguably the best team in the state, the Jackson Giants can still take away positives and move forward as they take on the Pocatello Runnin Raiders this Thursday. The Giants will host the doubleheader against the Raiders, with the first pitches scheduled for 2 and 4:30 PM at Giants Field.
