Man is gored by bison in Yellowstone National Park

June 29, 2022 by Jackson Hole Radio

A man is gored in Yellowstone National Park in an incident where video shows he just might have been playing the part of a hero.
Park authorities say a 34-year-old male from Colorado Springs, Colorado sustained an arm injury after a bison suddenly charged a family walking on the boardwalk near Giant Geyser at Old Faithful.
According to park officials, the family had an opportunity to make space between themselves and the bison but did not. It was then the man was finally contacted by the animal. The press release from the National Park Service was not entirely correct, however.
In a video of the incident, seen by Jackson Hole Radio, a family of two adults and one child can be seen unsure of what to do or where to go after the bison made one bluff charge, coming from a long way off at full speed. The man who would eventually be injured is then seen approaching with the obvious intention of providing assistance.

It is then the bison makes another charge, this time straight at the child. The unidentified man made a courageous attempt to pull the child free at the last second from the charging bison, and was gored in the arm for his efforts. Another bystander can be seen deploying bear spray at the bison and he walked away on the boardwalk.
The victim was transported by ambulance to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. His condition is not known.
This is the second goring by bison in the park in a matter of weeks. An Ohio woman was attacked dnd tossed ten feet into the air after she approached the animal too closely on Memorial Day.
