Unified Effort Rescues Injured Hunters
Rescue personnel teamed up with law enforcement and Fire/EMS to pull off a successful search and rescue operation early Tuesday morning.
A truck carrying a father and son rolled off a steep hill while they were hunting west of Big Piney. Both were ejected from the vehicle, which ended up in an aspen grove. The father called for help around 3:00 am, reporting his son’s injury, but was uncertain of their location.
Cellphone Pings
Dispatch operators managed to determine their position by pinging the father’s cellphone. This information directed Sublette County Fire, Sublette County EMS, Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, Tip Top Search and Rescue, and Air Idaho to the accident site.
Given the challenging location and the son’s condition, the rescue was complex. First responders used Sublette County Fire’s capstan rope winch to hoist the injured boy onto a litter.
Collaborative Rescue
The team then transported him up a 40-yard hill to a waiting helicopter, which flew him to Idaho Falls for medical treatment.
Authorities say the success of this rescue highlights the importance of collaboration among emergency services and their commitment to saving lives.
