UPDATE: Body Found In Search For Missing Hiker
An extensive search for the missing Minnesota hiker, John Diepholz, continues. Diepholz had embarked on an 11-day excursion into the Wind River Range, beginning on August 5th. Concerns arose when he didn’t return as scheduled on August 16th. The missing hiker was reported to the Sublette County Dispatch on Monday, August 21st stating that Diepholz had not returned from the region around Wall Lake.
Description of John Diepholz
- Age: 64 years
- Height: 6’ 3”
- Weight: 170 pounds
Since Tuesday, the combined efforts of the Tip Top Search and Rescue team, along with personnel from the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, have been relentless in their pursuit to locate John. These dedicated teams have been conducting searches on the ground and from the skies, using helicopters. To further the search, Tip Top Search members have interviewed over 200 individuals who were hiking in the vicinity to glean any potential insights or information.
Weather Hinders Search
The weather, unfortunately, played spoilsport during the initial days of the search, hindering helicopter flights and on-ground search efforts. Thankfully, today promises clearer skies and improved weather conditions, which will facilitate more expansive search operations. As of now, today will mark the fourth day of the overall search and the third day of intensified air and ground operations. The main focus remains on certain areas of interest around Wall Lake, which is situated roughly 15 miles from the Elk Hart trailhead.
Authorities urge the public to assist by sharing any information about Diepholz’s whereabouts.
