A Long-Awaited Victory

In a defining moment for Wyoming baseball, Cheyenne Post 6 has shattered barriers by clinching their first coveted spot in the American Legion World Series. The remarkable victory came as they emerged triumphant with a 7-4 win over Gillette in the championship game of the Northwest Regional tournament. Notably, Cheyenne, who played the Jackson Wyoming Giants over the summer, becomes the first Wyoming team to break through to the ALWS, marking a significant stride for the state’s baseball legacy. The Sixers were runners up in the Northwest Regional Tournament in 1991, 2003, 2006, and 2022, finally making their breakthrough this summer season.

Sixers American Legion World Series Schedule

The Sixers travel to Shelby, North Carolina, for the 2023 American Legion Baseball World Series. The team faces off against the West Regional Champion, League City, Texas on Thursday at 8 am MT. Also in group play, the Sixers face the Northeast Regional Champions Ellsworth, Maine, on Friday at 2 pm MT , and defending World Series champions Troy, Alabama on Saturday at 5:30 MT. The top two teams in group play will advance to the semifinals, looking to clinch the 96th American Legion World Series title.

Cheyenne’s Road to the American League World Series

Sitting at 65-15, the Cheyenne Sixers have experienced a seriously impressive summer campaign. They have the most wins of the eight teams in the ALWS, and look to ride their winning streak. The Sixers won both the Wyoming State tournament for the 33rd time, defeating the Casper Oilers in the championship game, and the Northwest Regional Tournament championship defeating the Gillette Roughriders. In the Northwest Regional Tournament, the Cheyenne Post 6 Sixers were 5-1, with their sole loss against Pocatello, Idaho in the second game. The Sixers then won four straight elimination games defeating Lakeside Recovery, the Rocky Mountain Lobos, and the Roughriders twice en route to their elusive first North West Regional Tournament title. The Sixers spot is well deserved as they look to make Wyoming American Legion baseball proud with a deep run in the 96th annual American Legion World Series.
