Another Wolf Hunt Area Closes
Gray Wolf Hunt Area 2, the Sunlight Management Area northwest of Cody, closed Thursday because the mortality quota of eight wolves was reached. That area becomes the fifth hunt area to close in the Trophy Game Zone – two in the Absaroka Management Unit and three in the Jackson Management Unit. Seven hunt areas remain open. Wolf seasons close in hunt areas where the species is classified as a trophy game animal when the mortality quota is reached or when the season closes on Dec. 31, whichever comes first. Altogether, 39 wolves have been killed in the trophy zone out of the 2012 quota of 52. Elsewhere in the state, another 19 have been taken by hunters.
