The Jackson Hole High School Speech and Debate Team continued their regular season accomplishments with a first place finish at the Bobcat Invitational, held at Hot Springs County High School, December 15th. The Jackson team, under the coaching of Londe Gagnon and Peggy Gagnon earned an overall 79 points for the team sweepstakes out of the 11 teams participating. Worland took second in the 3A category with Star Valley following close behind in third. Senior Leila Sandlin placed first in varsity Program Oral Interpretation. She went on to win varsity Poetry Interpretation with her piece exploring the high school experience through Broadway musical lyrics. Senior Samantha Smith also had a very rewarding tournament finishing first in Congressional Debate. Freshman William Aepli took home first place in novice Congressional Debate for the fourth tournament in a row. Freshman Virginia Girling placed second in the event while freshman Anna Revill placed third. Aepli and Girling continued their success by tying for first in novice Lincoln Douglas Debate. The team now will not compete until January 25thwhen they travel to Evanston.
