JH Mountain Resort Sees Banner Year

April 15, 2013 Jackson Hole, State of Wyoming, Teton County No Comments
JHMR

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has announced business at the resort during the just-concluded season surpassed its busiest season ever, this year counting 502,222 skiers and snowboarders.  This is also the first time JHMR has reached 500,000 skier visits. Resort President Jerry Blann says that is a benchmark that few resorts ever achieve. That record number was reached despite snowfall on the ski hills 60% of average at the base and 80% at mid-mountain.  All-in-all, resort officials say the snowfall was about 100 inches below average.  A resort release credited new flights and additional airline seats flying into Jackson’s airport for helping boost the numbers. Two new nonstop flights were added this past season from Newark, N.J., and San Francisco.  Additionally, non-stop flights resumed between Jackson and Minneapolis after being absent from the flight schedule for several years.

The rabbit populations in the state are going crazy. I have a degree in zoology, so I feel I’m qualified to estimate the number of cottontails hopping around Wyoming. My best estimate is zillions. OK, so maybe my methods for determining the rabbit numbers aren’t exactly scientific. But there are a lot of ‘em. There […]

A cold front and weather system will push through the state of Wyoming early today.  Scattered rain showers will be possible statewide across lower elevations, but the best chance will be in northern and southeastern Wyoming.  Rain showers could become heavy at times, especially in southeastern parts of the state in the afternoon and evening.  […]
  • Today’s a big day for hunters in Wyoming - October 1, 2014
If you’re really serious about hunting, you’re probably not listening to this. Depending on where you are in the state, the sun’s either up already or sunrise isn’t far away. If you’re a die-hard hunter, you’re probably already hunkered down in a field waiting for the geese to come in, out in the timber trying […]
  • Not all bad news in judge’s decision to relist wolves - September 30, 2014
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson handed down a ruling last week that removed wolves from Wyoming control and put them back under the protection of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. That ruling put an end to hunting wolves anywhere in the state, whether they’re in the trophy game area in the northwestern corner […]
