If you were in the vicinity of the Jackson Hole K-Mart Saturday, you no doubt saw Jackson Hole Fire/EMS represented there. It was all part of their participation in Fire Prevention Week this week. Members of the department were on hand to teach the importance of fire extinguishers and their proper use. Meanwhile, this week, local firefighters will be visiting area schools to talk with students about smoke detectors and how to react if they hear them. The younger children will have the opportunity to see a firefighter change into his bunker gear so they know not to be afraid of someone dressed in all that equipment should they need to be rescued. Additionally, school children will be urged to visit with their families about establishing a meeting place outside the house should they ever have to evacuate. Fire Prevention Week is observed nationally through October 12th.
