Governor Matt Mead says he is looking forward to the de-listing of the Grizzly Bear next year as recommended by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee this month.  The committee agreed with a report by researchers that the numbers of the species in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem had recovered sufficiently and the food supplies were adequate to support such a de-listing from protection under the Endangered Species Act.  Mead says the state will anxiously and we’ll continue to monitor that issue. During his news conference just before Christmas, Mead told reporters the second successful season for the state managing the wolf population was coming to an end with only 36 wolves being killed as predators and 21 out of the quota of 26 trophy animals had been harvested.

  • Don’t lose your vision in the woods - October 21, 2014
I don’t have good eyes. Had I been born a hundred years ago, there would have been no help for me. Glasses can’t help me, so I’d have blind. I have to wear a special kind of contact lens, which wasn’t available in the days of Davey Crockett and Daniel Boone. But through the miracle […]
  • Hunters must be conservationists first - October 20, 2014
As hunters, it’s our responsibility to take care of the critters we hunt, as well as those we don’t. We have to obey the game laws. Police ourselves to be sure others respect the wildlife. And even offer suggestions to the Game and Fish Commission when we think there are better ways to ensure that […]
