This was not prettiest hockey ever played at the Snow King Sports and Event Center. Particularly Friday night when the teams skated to a 0-0 tie after the first period. Part of the credit goes to two teams that knew each other well (they played just last weekend in Colorado) and were both committed to playing strong defense. The result was few breakaways and odd-man rushed and less scoring than Jackson Hole hockey fans are used to. The Moose skated to a 4-2 win Friday with every goal but one coming off special teams play—3 power play goals, a shortie, and an empty-netter. But it was hard to watch hockey. Passes failed to click, there was little open ice…and all goals came off rebounds and scrambles in front. Saturday’s 6-1 Moose victory wasn’t so much a blowout but a slow strangulation of a visiting team that began to wilt in the third. The wins improve the Moose record to 7-1 on the season. They take on the Yellow Jackets from Boulder this weekend.
