State Supreme Court Rules Against Legislature

The Wyoming legislature erred when it passed a bill stripping state Superintendent of Public Instruction Cindy Hill of most of her power last year.  The Wyoming Supreme Court ruled in favor of Hill in a split decision that the legislature is prohibited from transferring duties from the superintendent to another agency or officer.  The court called the case “of very grave importance.”  Teton County Representative Keith Gingery has stood in opposition to the bill and unsuccessfully tried to convince the legislature to defeat it.  Now says Gingery, “I am relieved to see the Wyoming Supreme Court agrees with my reasoning that I expressed on the House floor last year.” Gingery says it is still unclear what the ruling means for how it will affect Hill’s position.
