Central Wyoming College (CWC) is making strides in addressing the growing demand for certified healthcare professionals through its statewide Medical Apprenticeship Program. Launched in the fall of last year, the program offers healthcare workers a pathway to enhance their skills and earn industry-recognized certification.
Program Success and Structure
The program has already seen promising results, with 25 students enrolled and six completing requirements and passing the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) exam—a 100% pass rate. CWC provides flexibility by offering online courses and certification testing, making it easier for working professionals, single parents, and first-generation students to participate.
“We are thrilled to be the only college in Wyoming offering this unique apprenticeship program,” said Kristy Jones, a team member who helped launch the initiative. “Our goal is to provide individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the healthcare industry.”
Industry Impact and Support
The program has received praise from healthcare leaders, including Kerry George, Director of Nursing at Wind River Family and Community Health Care. “The healthcare industry is in need of skilled professionals, and CWC’s apprenticeship program is a great opportunity for individuals to gain the necessary qualifications,” said George.
By equipping students with critical skills and boosting their earning potential, the program not only benefits participants but also addresses staffing challenges faced by hospitals and clinics across Wyoming.
