Jackson Giants split doubleheader

June 16, 2023 by Max Mitchell

The Jackson Post 43 Jackson Giants and Laramie Rangers engaged in an exciting doubleheader on Wednesday night.

In the first game, Laramie Rangers demonstrated their prowess with both pitching and hitting, securing a 3-0 victory. Brandon Chavez pitched a remarkable game, allowing no runs and four hits in seven innings. Laramie Rangers capitalized on an error and a fielder’s choice by Diego Herrerra to score three runs in the fifth inning. Xander Witt stood out for the Giants, recording 18 outs and contributing at the plate along with Aaron Huggins, Ayden Gralund, and Ethan Garner.

However, the Giants rallied in the second game, clinching a 4-3 win to split the doubleheader. Laramie Rangers initially took the lead with two runs on a wild pitch and a groundout by Tayton Moore in the third inning. The Giants swiftly tied the game with a double from Ethan Garner and a sacrifice fly by Matt Fisher. The decisive moment came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Mason Wright’s single broke the tie, securing the victory for the Giants. Aaron Huggins delivered an impressive performance on the mound, allowing two hits and three runs over five innings, while Wiley Wilkes earned the save. Trayson Kostial shone with two hits for the Giants, while Fisher, Wright, and Garner each contributed an RBI.

With their hard-fought victory in the second game, the Giants look forward to hosting the upcoming “Chris Hodges Memorial Baseball Tournament” and aim to maintain their winning momentum.
