Yellowstone National Park Visitation Surges in July

August 17, 2023 by Cecily Ross

Yellowstone National Park had a big July this year. Almost 970,000 people came to enjoy the park, which is a large increase from last year when around 596,000 people visited. Compared to July 2019, there’s also more visitors this year – about 4% more.

This whole year has been a busy one for Yellowstone. So far, over 2.4 million people have visited the park in 2023. That’s a lot more than last year, which had about 1.9 million visitors. Compared to the year before COVID-19, which was 2019, there’s still an increase in people coming this year – about 7% more.

  • 2023: Over 2.4 million visits
  • 2022: About 1.9 million visits (Note: The park was closed from June 13 to June 21, with some entrances opening later in the year.)
  • 2021: About 2.7 million visits
  • 2020: About 1.7 million visits (Note: The park was closed for a while because of COVID-19.)

Yellowstone Recovers From Floods

It’s important to remember that 2020 and 2021 were a bit unusual because of COVID-19, and in 2022, the park was closed for two weeks due to massive flooding. So, comparing this year to 2019 gives a better idea of how many people are really coming.

Yellowstone is drawing more and more people every year. The park’s natural beauty and unique features are a big attraction for all kinds of people. With more visitors than ever, the park’s managers have a big job to do – keeping the park amazing while making sure people can enjoy it safely.
